GTA 6 PC Requirements: What's Actually Confirmed, and What to Build
DanShare
Rockstar has not published official GTA 6 PC requirements, because a PC version of the game has not been announced. GTA 6 launches on 19 November 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S only. Any spec table claiming to be official is an estimate. What we can do honestly is work backwards from console hardware and Rockstar's porting history to show what a sensible GTA 6-ready PC looks like today.
That is the short version. Below we set out exactly what Rockstar has confirmed, what previous Rockstar releases can tell us about the potential timing of a PC version, and how to build a machine now that will handle GTA 6 comfortably whenever it arrives - without overspending on hardware that will be a generation old by then.
Are there official GTA 6 PC requirements?
No. Rockstar's official Grand Theft Auto VI page lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. It does not list PC. No minimum specification, no recommended specification, and no PC release date have been published.
This matters more than it might sound. System requirements are not guesswork on the publisher's side, they are the output of the finished PC build. They depend on the resolution targets the studio settles on, the texture and shadow presets that ship, whether ray tracing is included, which upscalers are supported, the storage format, and months of optimisation work. Until that build exists and Rockstar tests it, nobody outside the studio can state minimum specs with any authority.
So when you see a table headed "GTA 6 official system requirements" with a GTX 1660 in the minimum row, you are looking at somebody's estimate with the word "official" attached to it. Sometimes that estimate is reasonable. It is still an estimate.
When will GTA 6 come to PC?
Rockstar has not announced a date. Its track record with previous titles is the only useful guide:
|
Title |
Console release |
PC release |
Gap |
|
Grand Theft Auto V |
September 2013 |
April 2015 |
19 months |
|
Red Dead Redemption 2 |
October 2018 |
November 2019 |
13 months |
|
Grand Theft Auto IV |
April 2008 |
December 2008 |
7 months |
If GTA 6 followed a similar pattern to these previous Rockstar releases, a PC version could potentially arrive between mid-2027 and mid-2028. However, Rockstar has not announced a PC version or release window, so this should be treated only as historical context, not a prediction.
The practical consequence for anyone buying a PC right now: you are not buying hardware for November 2026. You are buying hardware that needs to still be comfortable in 2027 or 2028. That changes what "enough" looks like.
What we can infer from the console version
The PS5 and Xbox Series X are known quantities, and they set a floor. Both consoles use an eight-core Zen 2 CPU, 16GB of unified memory shared between system and graphics, and a custom RDNA 2 GPU. The Series X GPU sits roughly in the region of a desktop RTX 2080 / RX 6700 XT in raw throughput.
Two inferences follow that are reasonably safe:
● For a new gaming PC, we would consider 16GB of system RAM a baseline rather than a target. Consoles share 16GB between everything. A PC keeps system RAM and VRAM separate, but Windows, background apps and a browser all take their cut. 32GB is the sensible spec for a machine bought today.
● An NVMe SSD would be our recommendation. Modern gaming PCs increasingly rely on fast SSD storage, so we would recommend NVMe storage for any new gaming PC intended for demanding future releases. Until Rockstar publishes PC requirements, however, GTA 6’s storage requirements remain unknown.
Beyond that, inference gets thin. Ray tracing support, DLSS and FSR implementation, VRAM behaviour at 4K, and CPU load from the traffic and NPC simulation are all unknowable until a PC build exists.
What PC should you build for GTA 6?
Rather than pretend to know the specs, here is the more useful question: what hardware, bought today, will run a demanding 2027 open-world game at a given resolution? These are Kryoshift build tiers, not Rockstar specifications.

Why VRAM is the component to prioritise
For a new gaming PC intended to remain capable through 2027–28, we would favour GPUs with at least 12GB of VRAM, with 16GB providing additional headroom at higher resolutions. These are KryoShift recommendations for longevity, not GTA 6 system requirements.
Why a 3D V-Cache CPU is worth considering
GTA 6’s dense world, traffic, pedestrians and simulation could make CPU performance particularly important on PC. AMD’s X3D processors have performed strongly in many CPU-limited gaming workloads, making them a sensible option for a high-end gaming PC. However, GTA 6 PC performance cannot be benchmarked until a PC version exists.
Should you upgrade now or wait?
If GTA 6 is your only reason to upgrade, waiting makes sense. Rockstar has not announced a PC version or release date, and PC hardware continues to evolve quickly.
If you want a PC for the games you play now and want reasonable confidence it will handle GTA 6 later, buy on the basis of your current games and give yourself headroom on VRAM and storage. Those are the two components that age worst and are most awkward to upgrade later.
What we would avoid entirely is buying an expensive GPU specifically on the strength of a predicted spec table. The predictions have no source of authority behind them.
The honest summary
GTA 6 has no official PC requirements because it has no announced PC version. Anyone telling you otherwise is guessing. If you are building now, build for the games you actually play, prioritise VRAM and fast storage, and treat GTA 6 readiness as a happy consequence rather than the specification. We build every Kryoshift machine to order in the UK, so when Rockstar does publish real requirements, we will update this page and our build recommendations the same week.
FAQs
Is GTA 6 coming to PC?
Rockstar Games has not announced a PC version of GTA 6. As of August 2026, GTA 6 is officially confirmed for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with a release date of 19 November 2026. A PC release may follow in the future, but there is currently no confirmed PC release date.
What are the minimum requirements for GTA 6 on PC?
There are none published. Rockstar has not released minimum or
recommended PC specifications, because the PC version has not been
announced. Any table presenting minimum requirements as confirmed is an
estimate.
Will 16GB of RAM be enough for GTA 6?
We don’t know yet. Rockstar has not announced GTA 6 for PC or published official PC system requirements. For a new gaming PC in 2026, however, 32GB of RAM provides considerably more headroom for modern games, Windows and background applications than 16GB.
How much storage will GTA 6 need?
Rockstar has not announced GTA 6’s PC storage requirements. For context, Red Dead Redemption 2 requires 150GB of storage on PC. For a new gaming PC in 2026, we’d recommend a 2TB NVMe SSD to provide plenty of space for large modern games, but this should not be interpreted as a GTA 6 requirement.
Will GTA 6 support DLSS and FSR?
Nothing has been confirmed. Rockstar has not announced a PC version of GTA 6, so there are currently no official details regarding support for technologies such as NVIDIA DLSS, AMD FSR or frame generation.
Can I play GTA 6 on a gaming laptop?
Rockstar has not announced a PC version or PC system requirements, so laptop compatibility cannot yet be confirmed. If a PC version is announced, check its official requirements against the laptop’s CPU, GPU, RAM and storage. Remember that laptop and desktop GPUs with similar model names can deliver different levels of performance because of differences in power limits and cooling.
